Boilermakers perform welding and rigging work in the following areas: Powerhouses (nuclear and fossil fuel), chemical plants and refineries. Work involves erection and maintenance of smoke stacks, water towers, tanks and pressure vessels.
Length of Apprenticeship:
Four (4) Years–6,000 Hours including 144 hours of class work yearly.
- Apprentices receive eight sets of lessons (1 set every 6 months) and must pass advancement tests.
- Apprentices must complete on-the-job training sheets and complete and submit monthly reports.
Wage Information;
1st 6 months: 60% of journeyman wage
2nd 6 months: 65% of journeyman wage
3rd 6 months: 70% of journeyman wage
4th 6 months: 75% of journeyman wage
5th 6 months: 80% of journeyman wage
6th 6 months: 85% of journeyman wage
7th 6 months: 90% of journeyman wage
8th 6 months: 95% of journeyman wage

Basic Requirements:
- Must be at least 18-years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate.
Working Conditions:
Boilermakers work in extreme weather conditions, at great heights, on various types of scaffolds which include sky climbers and in confined spaces.
Recommended Preparatory Classes:
Mathematics, science, drafting, welding and blueprint reading.
Abilities:
- Must be in good physical condition.
- Must be able to work in confined spaces.
- Must be able to lift heavy objects and do a lot of climbing.
Work Experience
(Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.) Welding experience is beneficial, but not required.
Entry Process:
- Applications for Construction Boilermaker apprentices will be accepted
- during specific application periods between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00
