Ceramic Tile Finishers are responsible for all grouting, cleaning, polishing and handling of all ceramic tile and/or other materials that are to be installed by ceramic tile layers. They are also responsible for mixing all mortars used in the installation of ceramic tile. Other duties include: unloading materials, covering finished floors and cleaning and removal of all waste and materials used in connection with the installation of ceramic tile.
Length of Apprenticeship:
- One and one half (1 1/2) years.
- Apprentices begin by attending two Saturday classes.
- Apprentices must complete 12 eight-hour classes.
- Apprentices receive on-the-job training five days per week.
Wage Information:
1–599 hours of on-the-job training 50% of journeyman wage.
600–1,199 hours of on-the-job training 60% of journeyman wage.
1,200–1,799 hours of on-the-job training 70% of journeyman wage.
1,800–2,399 hours of on-the-job training 80% of journeyman wage.
2,400–2,999 hours of on-the-job training 90% of journeyman wage.
Journeyman Level 100% of journeyman wage

Basic Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a car.
- Must show a birth certificate.
- Must have proof of citizenship.
- Must take and pass an aptitude test.
Working Conditions:
Tile Finishers work inside the majority of the time.
Abilities:
Must be dependable.
Work Experience:
(Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.) Previous experience with construction work is beneficial.
Entry Process:
- Complete application at the office. (Applications are available one time a year. Check your local papers or call for specific dates.)
- Take an aptitude test.
- Take an oral interview.
- A combination of the aptitude test and oral interview will determine the rank of an applicant.
- Applicants with the highest rank will be accepted first.
