Glaziers install metal framing, metal doors, certain types of curtain wall, glass doors, door closers, insulated glass, glass railings, glass panels, glass in skylights, glass in wood or metal frames and glass in wood or metal doors.
All methods of holding glass in place. All plexiglass and polycarbonate used in place of glass. All sealant of glass to metal and metal to substrate. All glass wire, tempered, colored or obscure, electric glass etc. Minimum amount of welding of aluminum to steel.
Length of Apprenticeship:
- Three (3) years—Minimum of 6,000 hours of on-the-job training.
- Apprentices begin by attending two nights of orientation.
- Apprentices attend classroom instruction one night per week, three hours a night the remainder of the program. Plus related instruction
as required.
Wage Information:
1st 6 months 35% of journeyman wage
2nd 6 mos. 45% of journeyman wage
3rd 6 mos 55% of journeyman wage
4th 6 mos. 70% of journeyman wage
5th 6 mos. 80% of journeyman wage
6th 6 mos. 90% of journeyman wage
After three (3) years of Apprenticeship and upon certification of the J.A.T.C. Instructor and J.A.T.C. Trustees, he/she shall be given the Journeyman’s wage rate.
Basic Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old and show a birth certificate.
- Must be a Legal Resident and have a Social Security Card.
- Must have a high school diploma or a G.E.D. Certificate.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- Must pass a physical exam.
Recommended Preparatory Classes:
Mathematics, mechanical drawing, geometry, and computer class.
Abilities:
- Must be able to lift at least seventy (70) pounds.
- Must be able to work at high levels from scaffolds and ladders.
- Must be able to follow instructions.
- Must be able to pay attention to details.
- Must work with others in harmony.
Work Experience:
(Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.) Familiarity with construction work, glazing work and power tools is helpful.
Entry Process:
- Complete application at office. (Applications are available once every three years.)
- Pay a $20 application fee.
- Submit required documents with application.
- Take and pass a physical exam.
- Take and pass an aptitude test.
- Applicants with the highest scores are then given an oral interview.
- Applicants with the highest combined scores are put on an eligibility list.
- When chosen, the applicant must take and pass a drug test.
