Ceramic Tile Layers (Updated May 2009)
Ceramic Tile Layers install ceramic, mosaic, quarry, marble tile and decorative tiles.
Length of Apprenticeship:
Three (3) years. Apprentices begin by attending a mandatory, unpaid eight-week pre-apprentice session. Apprentices receive on-the-job training five days a week.
Apprentices attend school for eight hours on Saturdays from SeptemberMay.
Wage Information:
01,000 hours of on-the job training: 50% of journeyman wage
1,0012,000 hours of on-the-job training: 60% of journeyman wage
2,0013,000 hours of on-the-job training: 70% of journeyman wage
3,0014,000 hours of on-the-job training: 80% of journeyman wage
4,0015,000 hours of on-the-job training: 90% of journeyman wage
5,0016,000 hours of on-the-job training: 95% of journeyman wage
Journeyman Level: 100% of journeyman wage

Basic Requirements:
Must be at least 17 years old.
Must have high school diploma or G.E.D.
Must have two favorable character references.
Must be physically fit to perform the job.
Must take and pass an aptitude test.
Must take and pass an oral interview.
Working Conditions:
Ceramic Tile Layers work both inside and out.
Recommended Preparatory Classes:
Mathematics, geometry, shop and blueprint reading classes
Abilities:
Must be able to withstand working on your hands and knees for long periods of time.
Must be able to lift at least 100 pounds.
Work Experience:
(Helpful, but not necessary for acceptance.) Previous experience with construction work is beneficial.
Entry Process:
Complete application at the office. (Applications are made available as labor demands dictate. Check local newspapers or call for specific dates.)
Take and pass aptitude test.
Applicants receiving the top scores will be interviewed by the committee.
A combination of the aptitude test and the oral interview will determine an applicants rank.
The highest ranking applicants will be accepted first.
